About

DRIA JAMES
Founder, Black In Diversity
talent & dei strategist
executive coach

Dria began her career in New York City as an analyst in the Human Capital Management Division at Goldman Sachs. Rising to the position of Vice President, she drove HR processes and designed global initiatives spanning recruitment, leadership development and talent and performance management. During her time, she co-developed one of the firm's leading initiatives to grow and support a diverse talent pipeline and co-managed it's pioneering career re-entry program for talented professionals looking to restart their careers.

In 2017, she joined Bain & Company to lead the firm's retention, development and advancement efforts for Black, Latinx and Asian talent. She later joined the firm's Washington, DC office and became the firm's inaugural Head of DEI for the Americas, spearheading the DEI strategy for the region and embedding an equity-focused approach to regional processes, programs and culture initiatives. Through her efforts, she played a critical role in establishing the firm's commitments to promoting racial equity and social justice, including its creation of a diversity, equity and inclusion practice area to support corporate clients in their own DEI commitments and efforts

Throughout her career, Dria has been devoted to supporting professionals, particularly those from underrepresented communities, in navigating the corporate world. She has designed and facilitated workshops, conferences and programs for over 50,000+ employees, providing tools and skills to drive success, customizing content for the unique needs and experiences of diverse audiences.

Despite her success, Dria faced her own challenges in creating a healthy boundary between her work and personal life. In late 2022, she took a deliberate step back from her corporate career and embarked on a journey to reclaim her well-being, and transition from a lifestyle of surviving to thriving. After dozens of interviews with ambitious leaders across industries and professions, notably fellow change agents of color, she identified their shared experiences of grappling with strong fervency and passion for their work, coupled with high levels of stress and emotional fatigue, often questioning the path forward.

As the Founder of Black In Diversity, Dria is on a mission to inspire, equip and empower Black leaders and allies with tools to thrive, while driving systemic change. She serves as a coach, consultant, speaker, and community builder, dedicated to maximizing the potential and performance of individuals and organizations through human capital investments. In all her endeavors, she aspires to lead with compassion in order to inspire bold action.

She holds a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, with concentrations in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, along with minors in Africana Studies and Inequality Studies. She currently resides in New Jersey, enjoys travel and sports, and is a self-proclaimed brunch and ice cream enthusiast.
